According to a doctor, many individuals are reluctant to acknowledge that their serious symptoms are a result of COVID-19. This observation was made by Health Reporter Fiona Callingham, who specializes in medical studies, symptoms of diseases and conditions, real-life stories, and the latest public health issues, in collaboration with Damon Wilkinson.
A doctor, Dr. Helen Wall, has issued a warning about an increasing number of patients experiencing severe headaches after testing positive for COVID-19. The virus, she said, has been causing significant problems as cases have been on the rise in recent months.
Dr. Wall, who serves as a GP and is the clinical director of population health for NHS Greater Manchester, expressed that many individuals appear to be in denial about their severe viral symptoms possibly being caused by COVID. She mentioned, “It’s been really difficult to persuade people [that they have COVID] . Perhaps they are unwilling to acknowledge it or don’t consider it a legitimate concern anymore.

“People simply don’t want to acknowledge it. It appears as if life has returned to normal, but regrettably, in the healthcare sector, we confront the reality that it’s still present and causing significant problems every day.”
COVID-19 cases in the UK have been on the rise since July. According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the week leading up to October 4 witnessed a 29 percent surge in COVID-19 cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, there was a 55 percent increase in COVID-19-related deaths and a 24 percent uptick in hospital admissions linked to the infection.
Fatigue is a prevalent symptom associated with Omicron.
Health authorities have attributed the increase in COVID-19 cases to the emergence of the Eris and Pirola strains of the virus in the summer, both of which are variants of the Omicron lineage.
Dr. Wall suggested that this rise in cases might be due to diminishing vaccine immunity.
Symptoms
Dr. Wall also noted that many patients are reporting “horrific headaches” in addition to other symptoms. She stated, “Viruses affect every cell in your body, so if you experience headaches, fever, general aches and pains, and cough, it’s likely that you have a viral infection, whether it’s COVID-19, the flu, or another virus.”

Dr. Wall mentioned, “The patients I’ve encountered have displayed a wide range of symptoms, with headaches appearing to be particularly prominent at the moment.”
It’s believed that the Eris and Pirola variants may be causing symptoms resembling those associated with Omicron.
The Zoe Health Study has identified the most common Omicron symptoms as:
- Runny nose
- Headache
- Fatigue (mild or severe)
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
VaccinesDr. Wall emphasized the importance of eligible individuals getting vaccinated against COVID-19 during this autumn.
“The primary message is to get vaccinated,” she emphasized. “We have evidence that individuals who are vaccinated are less likely to contract the virus, transmit it to others, or require hospitalization.”
She also acknowledged the challenging winter ahead for the NHS, with ongoing issues related to the pandemic’s backlog and ongoing strikes.
“People are putting in extraordinary efforts, but the most effective action to decrease hospitalizations is to get vaccinated.”
In case of experiencing Covid symptoms or receiving a positive test result, the NHS recommends self-isolation at home and avoiding contact with others for a duration of five days.
