Social media platform X, previously recognized as Twitter, is introducing a preliminary edition of video and audio calling for select users, as indicated by the platform’s chief technology officer and owner, Elon Musk. The billionaire is actively working to transform X into an all-encompassing application.
The ‘X’ logo is visible at the pinnacle of the headquarters of the messaging platform ‘X,’ previously recognized as Twitter, located in downtown San Francisco, California, U.S., on July 30, 2023.
Musk referred to a post on the platform that guides users on activating this feature as an “Early version of video & audio calling on X.”
This new capability is part of a series of fresh features and alterations to the platform’s fundamental experience initiated under Musk’s leadership, following his acquisition of the social media company nearly a year ago.
Following the rebranding of Twitter as X, Musk has expressed his intention to transform the platform into a super-app, providing various services encompassing messaging, social networking, and peer-to-peer payments.
Musk had previously hinted at this feature in August, emphasizing that users would not require a phone number for these functions, and they would be accessible on Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and personal computers.
